Elements

Director Peter Murray has been filming in Scotland since 2003. His films have been screened at the Edinburgh, Dundee, Kendal and Llanberis film festivals and abroad.

His philosophy is to approach the motivation of the climber through sound and film, revealing hidden motivations and linking them closely to the landscape and a sense of community. His journalistic approach brings a deeper resonance to climbing aside from the usual fare of techno-ridden soundtracks and bragging elitists on their latest projects.

The climbers Pete tracks down usually have something more humble to talk about and climbing is seen as an attempt to re-engage with the landscape and wilder elements of human nature.

On Elements, he uses the narration of ecologist and activist Alistair McIntosh, who helped save a Harris mountain from the quarry companies. The philosophy puts bouldering into a context of man and nature, rather than man against nature.

Chains
